As I mentioned earlier that “Warmer days are on the way” – I guess we will have to be patient with Mother Nature and keep with the “Best is yet to come” theory.
The TBA website is open for 2019 TBA memberships and all other TBA programming… do not delay, purchase online now. The deadline to purchase your membership to be included in the TBA members Roster is April 30th, 2019. This year, Field Day and Lobsterfest are on June 29th, and the August Field Day and Event Night is August 3rd. And wait until you hear the theme for August’s event, it will be one you do not want to miss!
I would like to thank the TBA Executive team for their hard work and dedication, it is a pleasure working with this team and we will make the summer of 2019 a great experience for all TBA Members. We are looking for new volunteers with fresh ideas to join the TBA Executive, if you have any interest please contact me directly.
The TBA Executive is looking to maintain and continue our traditions but we also know we need to evolve and embrace all the new ideas in this new world of digitization. From social media, to the way in which we make our purchases and how we communicate, and the new generation is teaching us how to keep up. We have made positive steps towards making things easier for our membership, but we can do more, and we would love the new generation to be a part of this and get involved. I understand that everyone is busy but volunteering can be rewarding too and using technology today helps us to meet virtually but accomplish more.
The following is a quick reminder regarding Memberships. We are looking for NEW members and we are asking that you spread the news to all, tell your neighbours and if you are 25 years old and older you are required to have your own membership. Each family member (25 and over) staying in same cottage requires their own TBA Membership… you cannot be grandfathered under your parents TBA membership. Think about this the next time you or your kids are enjoying field day or baseball. Think about this when you are dancing the night away at Lobsterfest/Beach Ball. If you attend these events… be a TBA member - we have made it easy for you to register on line. The TBA Executive would like to thank all of those members that have registered and followed the guidelines. We bring this to the attention of the TBA membership because the online registration allows the TBA Executive to study the demographic categories and “change” in our TBA community.
All memberships help the financial aspect of the TBA program but also makes the TBA community remain strong.
See you at the beach

Just a reminder that maintenance covers the following areas;
Please feel free to offer your suggestions and ideas on how we can improve the TBA property… if you have not noticed, the Clubhouse Renovation is looking really good. Thank you to all the TBA members and your contributions.

TBA Executive would like to remind the membership of the following:
Life is Always Better When I’m Playing Tennis …
What a great time for Canadian Tennis… it has been a very successful last month for our young Canadian players. Congratulations to 18 year old Bianca Andreecu winning her first WTA singles championship at Indian Wells. Also Canadian ATP players Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime both made the semifinals of the Miami Open. It was wonderful to watch… so grab a racquet and come to the courts or participate in Drop In every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Come out with the kids and play a game of tennis.
As a tennis player you can win and you can lose, and you have to be ready for both. I practiced self-control as a kid. But as you get older they both - winning and losing - get easier.
Rafael Nadal
Tennis season for 2019 is here and we are preparing the courts for play. Harbourview and I have already discussed getting the nets up as soon as the weather cooperates.
The TBA is looking for a Tennis Director (or maybe a few volunteers), someone who can bring new ideas and to shake things up at the courts. It would be really nice to see some new members and perhaps spread the word to other people from other beaches … the tennis courts are not exclusive to Thunder Beach residents. As long as you pay to be a TBA member and tennis member we don’t care where you live or address of your cottage.
TBA Executive is still looking at the issue of “cracks” in the tennis courts.
Please remember you must be both a TBA member and a tennis member to play on the courts – TBA memberships and tennis memberships can be purchased from the TBA website. Tennis tags will be used again for the 2019 Tennis season.
Dates for 2019 Adult Tennis Doubles Tournaments:
We would also appreciate your ideas, thoughts and feedback for this upcoming season matt.ducharme@sympatico.ca. It is important that we hear from you.
See you on the courts.
Matt DuCharme, Tennis Director
Thunder Beach Youth Baseball is about leadership, community building, making new friends, safety and most importantly, having fun!!
Over 80 children age 6 to 15 play on 4 teams. Games are played Tuesday, Thursday at 4:00pm and 5:15pm beginning Tuesday July 2nd.
The final tournament is on Friday July 19th.
We need volunteer coaches. Please contact: Doug Jones, djones000@symatico.ca, 705-533-2385, 519-575-1068
One of the joys of being at the cottage is getting outdoors and going for a run or a walk. We walk to Tula’s for an ice cream, we walk the kids to camp, we take the dog for a long run.
And because we are at the cottage, there are NO sidewalks.
Be safe this summer…. WALK ON THE LEFT FACING THE TRAFFIC !!!
Need a plumber, an electrician, or a real estate agent? Cleaning the chimney or the septic tank? Planning a party or buying a new car?
We encourage all our members to support the businesses that advertise in our roster and our website.
Spring is in the air. It’s time to dust off your running shoes and get training. The 35th Annual Thunder Run will be held Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 @ 3:30 pm.
The two race format is back by popular demand – the full 7.5 km race, covering both west and east shore, and a shorter 4.5 km fun run, covering just east shore. The start line is at the Clubhouse and the finish line is at the Burkett family cottage.
Thanks again to Tyler Richard for the generous donation of Saucony running gear for the race winners.

Back upon popular request! The Farmers Market will continue to be a Thunder Beach staple on Thursdays in July and August.
As the warm weather approaches I look forward to reaching out to our returning vendors, as well as welcoming new ones.
I hope to introduce a wider scope of vendors, and connect our community to some new and exciting local talent!
Looking forward to seeing you all this summer!
Victoria Evans
Participate in a new event this year, Lights Out Thunder Beach! On Saturday August 10th we ask everyone to turn all outdoor lights off and keep indoor lights to a minimum so that we can enjoy the night sky to its fullest extent.
August 10th coincides with the Perseid Meteor shower which starts around July 23rd and ends around August 10th and will be at its maximum activity on August 13th.
Get your candles and flashlights ready for an evening under the sky!
This year marks the 16th year of exciting Flag Football at Thunder Beach! The tournament, renamed in honour of Luke Santi in 2008, has enabled hundreds of boys and girls to participate and have fun. We appreciate ALL the help from so many TB families and friends.
If you are interested in Playing, Coaching or Refereeing, register using the Sign-up Sheets posted by mid-July at the Friendly Corner Store. Please register by Friday July 19th. Team rosters will be posted at the Clubhouse and at the Friendly Corner Store on Sunday the 21st (late afternoon).
The fee is $20.00 per player. (Ages 10 -15 eligible as of July 22nd)
The tournament schedule is as follows: [ALL GAMES @ 3:30 & 4:30]
We look forward to seeing you this summer!
Gordon, Martha, Quinn and Matthew Smeaton
Luigi, Shelagh, Andrea and Janelle Santi
The 22nd Annual Tawny Richard Memorial Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday July 20, 2019! It’s a six on six tournament that has proven to be a great way to mix and mingle with Thunder Beachers regardless of skill level. It will follow the same format as the last few years, where individuals are assigned to a team upon arrival and there is a small fee of $5 per player to cover costs. Players must be 16 or older. The Tournament runs in the day from 11:30 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. Rain or shine! Last year, we added a souvlaki delivery which was a big hit thanks to the Friendly Corner Store. Details on how to sign-up will follow in the summer. The winning team gets their name engraved on the Trophy which is kept at the Friendly Corner Store for all to see.
We would like to thank the Butler and Bolt family for graciously agreeing to host this event again on 12-14 East Beach Road (just a few cottages east of the Simcoe Country road right-a-way – you will see the nets on the day). Remember to walk (not drive) and to respect their property and the neighbouring properties. Looking forward to those Thunder Strikes and Deep Digs!
John Philpott
